To Residents of Water District No. 8

At this time, the installation of the water main is complete. The water mains on Densmore Road, West Transit Church Road and Zig Zag Road have been installed, tested and disinfected. The Orleans County Health Department has given approval for the new water main to be placed into service.

If you haven’t done so already, you may now have your service installed from the curb stop at the road right-of-way to your home. Property owners are responsible for connection to the curb stop, extension of the water services to their buildings and for internal plumbing changes. The homeowner can obtain the water meter, backflow prevention device and two shut-off valves for either side of the water service installations is available at the Town Hall.

The residents should also clearly mark any underground piping, wires and conduits on their property, so that their contractor can avoid damaging these utilities. Homeowners connecting to the new water main must disconnect their well supply prior to receiving water from the Town of Gaines. A representative from the Town of Gaines will be required to enter each property to verify that the well supply is disconnected. The purpose for separating the well system from the new system is to protect the public from potential contamination from the well supply.

The final restoration of your property, which includes driveway restoration, fine grading, top soiling where necessary and seeding, will be completed in the Fall.

If you have any questions or comments with regards to the water project, please contact Ron Mannella, the Gaines Highway & Water Superintendent at (585)589-5833 or Town Clerk Jean Klatt at *585)589-4592.
